Dr. Umbach’s Educational and Career Background

Dr. Umbach has traveled around the world, earning his degrees and serving in the United States military. His experiences have enriched his learning and honed his skills in dental and endodontics practices.

After high school, Dr. Umbach enrolled in the United States Marine Corps, where he served for four years in the infantry. During this time, he lived in Haiti, Iran, Japan, and Korea, beginning his life of international travel.

Following his service in the Marine Corps, Dr. Umbach went to Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, where he earned his Bachelor of Arts in zoology, graduating cum laude. He then focused his career on dentistry and completed his Doctor of Dental Medicine degree at Midwestern University College of Dentistry in Glendale, Arizona.

To continue his dental education and service to his country, Dr. Umbach joined the United States Army. While in the army, he completed his dental and endodontics residencies. At Fort Campbell, Kentucky, he did a one-year Advanced Education in General Dentistry residency. His endodontic residency he completed at Fort Gordon, Georgia. Additionally, Dr. Umbach earned his Master’s in Oral Biology from the Uniformed Services University for Health Sciences.

Before joining us at Innovative Endodontics, Dr. Umbach spent three years as an endodontist in Wiesbaden, Germany, at the US Army Europe and Africa Headquarters.

Over his years of traveling the world, serving his country, and becoming an endodontist, Dr. Umbach has earned outstanding achievements.

The most well-known organization in the endodontics field, the American Association of Endodontists(AAE), awarded Dr. Umbach a Student Achievement Award during his schooling. The organization only gives this award to undergraduate dental students who have exceptional skills in endodontics.

Specifically, students who earn this award are deeply involved, have a profound interest in endodontics, perform above average in their didactic and clinical treatment endodontics courses, and have the approval of the endodontics program chair. Clearly, not just anyone can earn this award. Only truly exceptional students like Dr. Umbach have achieved this honor.

Just as noteworthy as his award from the American Association of Endodontists is his accumulated time serving his country. With both service in the United States Army and Marine Corps, Dr. Umbach has dedicated 11 years of his life to serving the United States.
